Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living
In April of 1983, six people with significant disabilities met to discuss changes for persons with disabilities in the Lawrence County area. Their meetings first started as a support group in a member’s kitchen, but eventually morphed into something much bigger. That small support group turned into what is now known as SICIL: the Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living.
Formally incorporated in the state of Indiana in February of 1996, The Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living (SICIL) is a 501(c) 3 organization. The Board of Directors oversees SICIL’s operation and follows the by-laws set to govern the center.
